Happy First Day of School!! Well, at least for some of you that’s true. And over here is the Willis household, it’s definitely true. Today, Josh heads back to the classroom to teach the kiddos some math stuffs. Last year, we had such a fun time turning his dingy, old classroom into a bright and colorful learning environment, but, as you can imagine, one year with high school kids, and his room was looking a little wore down. So, we went back to the school this past week to get it whipped into shape again. We changed up his entry station, spruced up the bulletin boards again, and put up some new math content posters. My inspirational quotes and celebrity posters mostly made it though the year unscathed, so they’re still in place.
One cool addition we made was upgrading his Class Rules poster. He came up with the words and I used some fun fonts in Photoshop to create this hip poster! It’s simple, to the point, and even kind of hip, which will hopefully help keep the little monsters in line. (I kid…. Kind of.) The best part? Josh got this printed at Staples as an 24×36 for under $10 using the engineering print service! Crazy cheap for a custom poster that big!! AND for all you teachers out there, you can download this POSTER SIZE class rules print FOR FREE! Yup, we want to share the love! (Download link below!)
Another cool addition this year is a new folder system using these collapsible plastic baskets to store folders color coded by class. (I tried hunting these down on the IKEA site, but I didn’t have any luck. They were about$2.99 a piece though.) When a new class starts, that classes basket can be grabbed from the bookcase and taken over to the “entry station” where we attached two 3M Command hooks to hang them! The kids can just walk in and grab their folder and calculator and easily turn in the folder at the end of class. Plus, it keeps them all separated by period to help make grading easier for Josh. These plastic bins are super sturdy and I think they will make an awesome organizational tool for this class!
And in other big news! Guess who is now the Freshman Cheerleading sponsor?? Guess, go on. Who could it possibly be?
He even has an adorable hand painted sign to prove it! (Don’t worry! More photos will come about this!!)
Okay, now for the freebie download. Just click to get it. The file size is an 18×24, so you can print a little smaller, but the fine folks at Staples had no trouble blowing it up to 24×36. And since we kept it black and white, you can use the engineering prints service to save some serious cash! One stipulation, if you download this and use it in your classroom, please come back and share photos with us!! We’d love to see all the hard work you put into your rooms!!
