holiday home tour 2013

Happy Wednesday! We’re now deep into December and I thought today would be the perfect time to share out little holiday home tour! This year, I really wanted to go with a bright, colorful Christmas theme. Lots of handmade elements and cozy textures. So, here we go!christmas-2013-6No mantle here, so our stocking are hung on the bookcase with care. I used little chalkboard tags to add our initials. Honestly, it’s just Josh and me, so we have never actually used stockings for holding gifts, but I love hanging them up. It just screams “holidays!”christmas-2013-8I picked up these cute little green elves from the Crate & Barrel outlet on sale last year. Paired with bright, bold colored candles they look super festive. They just sit on our bookcase and hug our candles! Cute, right?

holiday-home-tour-stockingsI am so in love with our knit stockings! I found these at Target last year and just had to have them. They have such a traditional, hand-made vibe, but the modern colors bring it up to date.

christmas-2013-9Also on our bookcase, I’ve got our DIY Cheeky Gold Foil Art and a cute little modern reindeer that I snagged on sale at Target last year.

holiday-home-tour-10For our tree this year, I wanted to have a “we threw everything on here” sort of vibe. Sometimes, themes that are super coordinated don’t feel as cozy to me. Do you thing so too? From all the gorgeous Christmas inspiration floating around this fall, I wanted to embrace that traditional, mis-matched aesthetic.

christmas-2013-13christmas-2013-1I added more handmade touches with these simple DIY Yarn Tassel Ornaments.

christmas-2013-2My favorite way to fill in empty spaces on artificial trees is to use flowers. These white flowers pack a big graphic punch and bring a little whimsy to the tree.
christmas-2013-3holiday-home-tour-2To add more color, I made these simple DIY Painted ornaments as an updated version of the traditional ball ornament. christmas-2013-14I really wanted to change up out tree skirt this year. For the past few we had this white and burlap ruffle thing going on, but this year I really wanted to ditch the neutral. I found this blue velvet fabric at a craft supply reuse store and just sort of swaddled it around the base of our tree. Just $2.00 and no effort for a totally different look.

holiday-home-tour-25I bought this wire wreath from CB2 on black Friday and thought it’d be perfect to display holiday cards as they come in. It was way way bigger than I expected, but I’m so in love with it! It’s a perfect blank slate that can be used for any occasion.

holiday-home-tour-22I made this mini bunting to drape across the wreath to add some decor while the cards continue coming in. Just a little scrapbook paper, baker’s twine, and double sided tape. Quick and simple.

  1. I love it all! The little bunting is the cutest!
By the way, you’ll definitely have to December-26th-clearance-shop at Target this year.
They have so many wonderful (COLORFUL) holiday items!

Love your stockings! The elf candle holders are just the cutest things I’ve ever seen. And your tree is beautiful – love the tassels. OK – I love it all. Thanks for inviting me into your festive home via your lovely pics! I don’t have a mantle, either. I hang the stockings on a buffet table. :)

  3. Love your style, Megan! Your holiday decorating is so cute and unique. Those elf candle holders stole a piece of my heart. Ridiculously cute.

  4. We have those red berry strings on our tree too! Merry Christmas!
