It’s time for the next project in our minimalist-lite life shake-up! The first category I decided to tackle was “beauty & style” and so far we’ve tackled clothes, jewelry, and I even got rid of my wedding dress! Today, I’m keeping the progress train rolling by sharing my minimalist-lite make-up routine.
You can see it’s all pretty basic. My makeup routine is neither extensive nor complicated. It took me a few years to hunt down the right stuff, but now I’ve got my cosmetics down to a pretty solid collection. I know exactly what to buy that will work with my skin type and complexion.
These are my must-have go-to beauty products: *Links are not affiliated. Most are from Ulta just because that’s where I buy my cosmetics from.
- Japonesque Pocket Eye Lash Curler
- Boi-ing Concealer
- Perfect Point Eyeliner in Black Onyx
- Master Precise Ink Pen in Black
- Lash Blast Volume Mascara in Black
- Retractable Kabuki Brush
- All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
- bareMinerals Matte Foundation in Fairly Medium
- NARS blush in Orgasm
- Too Faced Naked Eye Palette
Now, I can willingly admit that a lot of these items are not super cheap. It took me a while to realize that when it came to my skin, sometimes the cheap stuff doesn’t cut it. It might seem crazy to spend $20.00 on a tiny pot of concealer and $30.00 on blush, but honestly, I don’t go through those things very quickly. I’ve been working on the same NARS blush for more than 2 years now and I’ve barely hit the pan! Because my beauty routine is so simple, I do not feel bad for splurging a little on the products that work. It saves me time, effort, and frustration.
The other “miracle product” I want to mention is the All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. I stopped carrying my makeup bag around in my purse every day! I almost never have the time to touch up throughout the day, so why should I lug something else around everywhere I go? Instead of doing that, I use this every morning. You just spray it over your finished makeup and it helps to extend the life of you face. (That sounds weird.) But, seriously, this spray is fantastic and I highly recommend, especially for anyone out there who has oily skin like me. My makeup used to slide off my face by mid-morning. This stuff really helps to keep everything is place for longer. While, I don’t wear eye shadow on a daily basis, I really love this palette for nights out and special occasions. It’s got every shade necessary to create classic and dramatics looks. Plus, it’s all wrapped up in one container so I don’t have to sort through 10 eye shadow pots to find what I’m looking for. There are a lot of options out there for more neutral eye shadow palettes where every color is designed to work together and I love that convenience. Since makeup is not a hobby or big interest of mine, the simplicity is key.
With the exception of the eye shadow palette and the makeup setting spray, I keep all my other makeup in one bag. It’s easy to grab and I know it has everything I need.
And here’s a quick tip on how to clean makeup grime out of your bag: use a makeup remover wipe! These are obviously designed to cut through powders and residual makeup gunk, so they make a perfect cleaning tool to get your bag back to clean! Every two months or so, I use one wipe to clean out my bag and wipe down my makeup containers. Then, I just dry everything off with a paper towel and it’s good as new!
Makeup is an important part of my daily routine and love how simplifying it makes it easier to maintain and enjoy. I know exactly what to buy, where to buy, and how to apply it all on my face to look presentable.
